Music Club
I have been toying with the idea of reviving the Music Club which I organized in Xavier University. This springs from ennui and frustration at the doldrums that I find myself in these days, musically, that is. I guess you could say that being in Cagayan de Oro City needs some kind of effort on my part in order to be creative. I asked some people if they wanted to join in and some like Nonong Neri never bothered to answer my message. I wonder if he ever opens his inbox. Roy Tan said “sure” which is encouraging. Teddy Ludeña is busy as usual but we got to talk and discuss some ideas. Joevel Abejuela is also in with this idea as with a few other guys who expressed enthusiasm.
Very central to the idea of a Music Club is a website, something which would require me to do some programming. I would also need to put it on a VPS if I cannot operate my own server locally. Not having the resources for a local server I might opt for a VPS somewhere.
Another thing is activity. I have to have some kind of activity occurring regularly and what comes to mind is a continuing concert in a small venue. I like the idea of a small concert with many performers. And of the idea of doing it again and again. Music is like food and the air we breathe. We don’t have it once and expect it to nourish our spirits for a long time from that one time event.
More to come. . . . from Cagayan de Oro City.
A Special City – Cagayan de Oro City
Cagayan de Oro City has always been special to me and many others. One might even say it is kind of magical, if not, mystical. A long time ago, Divisoria was the center of the city and it was a place where people could sit on benches and talk about old times, the present and even the future. Gone are those days because Divisoria has fallen and shows no sign of ever rising again to its once-pristine stature as a safe and clean place. These days it is infested with “rugby boys and girls” who seem to have no other purpose in life than to remind us that something is wrong with society. Add to this the nascent problem of Badjaos who have taken to making Divisoria their hunting ground for their begging expeditions. I would characterize their activities as preying on hapless people who are really no more than victims of emotional blackmail.
The garish lights would have been more appropriate if the city could keep Divisoria from being a sprawling urinal. The Night Cafe might be argued as doing something for the coffers of the City but very rarely is it mentioned in the light of promoting prostitution and mendicancy in the heart of the city itself. When one talks of Cagayan de Oro, one inevitably thinks of Xavier University and Divisoria. Walk by the statue of Pres. Ramon Magsaysay and the smell of urine will assault your senses.
Cagayan de Oro City Public Market
This is an article from the destroyed server that used to house this website. I guess it is one of those things that just happens. There is a perfectly logical explanation although that explanation eludes me for the moment. Be that as it may, I do have a copy of the website and its articles on Google Reader so, here it is, resurrected for all and sundry.
The Public Market at Cogon, Cagayan de Oro is a blot in the eye of the City. It is dark and it is dirty. Inside and outside, it is dirty. I wonder why nobody complains about this. Are the citizens of Cagayan de Oro Cityinured to this situation? Or, do they shop in the malls? Maybe it is only the maids who do the marketing at the Cogon Public Market and who would listen to the complaints of helpers, if ever they do? Still, it cannot be helped that a large number of people do shop at the Cogon Public Market.
Is it a fact that Filipinos endure such things, as a matter of course? That they can blot it out of their minds as part of life? Has anyone tried to complain about this? Or, do these complaints fall on deaf ears. Every pundit on the radio talks about politics and high-profile topics. What about cleanliness in the public market. How can the city even begin to promote Cagayan de Oro without considering the Cogon market? Is it invisible? I will try to get photos of the public market and show the world how dirty it is. Maybe someone will take notice.
How do we promote Cagayan de Oro City when the public market is dirty? I cannot figure out how this has escaped the vigilant eyes of those who promote cdo.
Hello world! Third time’s a charm
I have done this for the third time, said Hello World. I remember the first time that I said “hello world” sometime in the last century when I first tried to learn the C programming language. I never realized that I would be doing this many more times. Ah well, c’est la vie!!!
I might as well enjoy this. Thelonious Monk, folks:
